Cuba abandons equal pay
One of the most important rights of socialism, that is to do as little work as possible and still get paid, comes to an end with Cuba’s decision to introduce performance related pay.
It’s one of several reforms carried out by President Raul Castro since succeeding ailing older brother Fidel.
But Cubans perhaps won’t be getting overexcited…
Although workers (5 per cent) and managers (30 per cent) will be getting bonuses, that’ll be on top of the average monthly wage in Cuba of US$19.50. To put that in perspective the weekly minimum wage in Jamaica is about US$51.50.
