Fugitive Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlin’s gang has killed 23 people in reprisal for his claim that the Guyanese government kidnapped his girlfriend. His Amazon jungle hideout was surrounded by scores of soldiers and police on the weekend yet he and his men still managed to shoot their way out.
Three members of the security forces were injured; one of the badmen killed. Rifles and 2,000 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Prime Minister Bharrat Jagdeo holds Rawlins responsible for the two massacres and 23 killings at Lusignan and Bartica and linked him to the 2006 assassination of Agriculture Minister Satyadeo Sawh. Rollins has so far admitted responsibility for the Lusignan incident which cost the lives of six adults and five children.
However police claim to have found evidence that links him with Bartica, including police radio equipment that was stolen from the three police officers killed in that raid.
Associated Press understatement: “The massacres have shaken Guyana’s security system and raised concerns about the effectiveness of its military and police.”
A very bad badman.
